Learing Disabllities

Einstein was four years old before he could speak and seven before he could read. Thomas Edison's teachers said he was too stupid to learn anything. Einstein had dyslexia. Edison had a hearing problem. People with learning disabilities often are of average or superior intelligence and have trouble achieving their potential in reading, writing, vision, listening, language, social, and/or motor skills. Today many Einsteins and Edisons sit in jail or commit suicide because of their “hidden handicaps”. They lead lives of frustration, failure, and low self-esteem, and slip through the cracks of the system.

Learning disabilities, evident in an estimated 80% of juvenile delinquents, are often a part of the history of high school dropouts, illiterate adults, teen suicide attempts and drug and alcohol users. There is no single reason for learning disabilities nor one universal solution. But there is HOPE.
