Sports Vision

For many sports, especially ball-related sports, vision plays a vital role.

Each sport, and sometimes a specific position within a sport, has its own unique required visual skill set.

  • Baseball, tennis and golf are examples of sports requiring a high level ability to “keep your eyes on the ball”.

  • Volleyball requires this skill while looking up.

  • Football quarterbacks and receivers need high-level eye tracking and depth perception skills to complete a pass.

  • A football center, guard or tackle has average depth perception needs but great peripheral vision awareness requirements.

  • Basketball and soccer demand high level peripheral vision awareness and visual concentration.

  • Shooting at a moving target requires high-level eye tracking and visual concentration.

Hope Clinic offers sports vision services to athletes at all competitive levels

From Pee-Wees to The Pros, a Sports Vision Evaluation analyzes the athlete’s visual abilities and Binocular (two eyes) visual function in light of the specific visual demands of the sport. Treatment options may include Lenses, Contact Lenses, Special Prism Lenses, and Optometric Vision Therapy/Orthoptics. Treatment is prescribed with consideration for each athlete’s unique visual situation and achievement goals.

Football is in the air, and players are practicing hard to get any type of edge they can over the competition. One area they may be overlooking is their vision – especially the impact vision problems can have on their game.

No matter how strong or fast you are, if you can’t see the ball, you can’t catch it. Unfortunately, an athlete can have vision problems that go undetected, even if they have perfect “20/20” vision. Read this article in its entirety about Vision Therapy for Athletes
